University of Calgary Atlas Project aims to recover crucial stories that illuminate the character of the city. Individual maps will document phenomena of early histories of queer communities, First Nations involvement in Calgary Stampede, tracing paths of immigration as reflected in restaurants and businesses. In this project we will partner with University of Calgary to develop a map of indigenous animals and vegetation in Downtown West Calgary. This map will then be launched with a guided Nature Walk. Our project will be part of a larger project that will, in the end, produce a series of maps that can be gathered together to form an atlas that preserves the crucial stories of Calgary. The Map of Flora and Faun of Downtown West will be available free of charge on our website and people can use it in years to come to learn about species that are indigenous to our area.
