Winnipeg Trails Association

Founded in 2003 and incorporated as a non-profit in 2017, Winnipeg Trails is a dynamic organization that plays a critical role in the development of a modern, sustainable city through the primary lens of active transportation. We implement practical, opportune and innovative ideas with an emphasis on creative problem solving, inter-sectoral partnerships, capacity-building, citizen involvement and evidence-based decision making. Our projects emphasize human movement, social interaction, compassion, access to nature, recreation and transportation. Core activities: Research and Data Collection; Project Implementation; Communications and Media Relations; Conferences and Cultural Events; Planning and Policy; Placemaking and Infrastructure Design; Mobile Technology and Multimedia; Job Training; Equipment Manufacturing, Repair and Distribution; Natural Stewardship. Major projects: FutureForests (treeplanting on trails), The Goal5 Bike Project with IRCOM, WinterPeg (grooming and equipment sharing), Healing Trails (Indigenous-led transport planning), The Plain Bicycle Project, The ModeShift Conference (best practices conference), BenchMark (landscape arch), School Loops (neighbourhood biking), the Trans Canada Trail (stewards in Winnipeg). Through our choice of priorities and the way we recruit staff, we are firmly committed and actively working towards more inclusive and safer spaces - and just plain more interesting and fun ones! We are from the communities mentioned above, working for them/us. One event in particular is wholly centered in the idea of Indigenous land stewardship and cultural values.
