Friends of Hancock Woodlands

Friends of Hancock Woodlands is a community based volunteer group that is committed to the stewardship of Hancock Woodlands park and the preservation of its unique historic and horticultural legacy.
Hancock Woodlands is an almost 7 acre property that was created from a former commercial nursery owned by the Hancock family who specialized in cultivating rhododendrons and azaleas, which are still numerous in the property's woodlot.
Our focus is to help control the invasive species in the park with the help of volunteers, under the guidance of the City of Mississauga's Parks & Forestry dept. We organize monthly stewardship events from Spring to Fall, but are in need of additional volunteers to help us in the park, as well as to join our committee.
We also have, in the past year, organized presentations on topics like invasive species, local history, as well the history of the Hancock family, that have been well received.
As we are a relatively new group (the park officially opened in June 2018) our goal is to encourage the local community to become involved as volunteers to help us in our endeavour to preserve and protect this beautiful property, and to foster a sense of "pride of ownership" of the park. We aim to accomplish this through organizing events combined with volunteer & membership drives.
The park is also the location of a Community Garden which is run by EcoSource.
