1JustCity is an exciting new organization that supports community outreach sites in three of Winnipeg’s core neighborhoods. Our services include healthy meals, emergency food packages, food bank, haircuts, showers, laundry, toiletries, and clean undergarments. We also offer seasonal shelter from extreme cold through an emergency warming center, called Just A Warm Sleep, January to March. We provide services to over 700 unique individuals weekly, and support nearly 5000 people in total.
Across our sites we have over 40 programs - literacy, art, music and more - all oriented towards working with community members to create an identity for themselves that is not rooted in poverty. For too many, poverty is all they see in themselves; and for too many others, trauma and barriers get in the way of self-worth.
People come here when they’re down on their luck or lonely. They come for human connection. We also have community-based advocacy services and compassionate listeners who connect people with the resources they need. The goal of 1JustCity is to create a sustainable future for 4 small community outreach sites that vulnerable Winnipegger's rely on; Oak Table in Osborne Village (home of Just a Warm Sleep); St Matthews Maryland Community Ministry in the West End, and West Broadway Community Services in West Broadway, and North End Stella, which now provides Indigenous-led reconciliation and healing programming at all three of our sites.
The 4 pillars of our work are: Loving the Underloved, Working Towards Reconciliation, Growing Individuals' Capacity, and Building Inclusive Communities.
Our West End outreach site, St. Matthews Maryland Community Ministry, offers summer programming in the nearby Agnes Street green space.
