Small business and entrepreneurs play a key role in Canada’s economy. A disparity exists in the lack of programming (including outdoor programming) for racialized youth and entrepreneurship-social enterprise building in Neighbourhood Improvement Area’s across Toronto including Parma Park. Racialized youth should consider entrepreneurship as an option when determining what it is they’d like to accomplish over the course of their working adulthood years as per our core group members.
Via funding from Park People, our community-led group will facilitate a series of holistic, outdoor workshops (including a clean-up and nature walk) in Parma Park providing tools, information and mentorship to at-risk youth between the ages of 14-22 from the Parma Park neighbourhood regarding what it takes to be an entrepreneur as well as tips and resources to help starting successful social enterprises engaging youth of both genders to view their strengths, skillsets and resources around them to survive in the new economy.
Workshops will be facilitated by university graduates as well social enterprise owners and entrepreneurs from 6ix Mentrepreneurs to ensure a great learning experience for all youth in attendance. A culminating BBQ in Parma Park (third event) with awards, prizes and a recap of learnings will conclude outdoor activities.
