ACSA Newcomers’ Center Seniors’ Cafe Group

The Seniors’ Café group is hosted at the Dorset Park Community Hub on a weekly basis and facilitated by the Newcomers’ Centre of Agincourt Community Services Association. The Seniors’ Café is a free program where seniors have the opportunity to interact with one another while improving English language skills. The program is open to all seniors and is accessible regardless of income status, ethnicity, language capacity, educational attainment, etc. The goal of the program is to create a positive and welcoming space for seniors around the community and reduce the level of social isolation among seniors, especially the newcomers, living alone, and those who have language barriers.
It aims to help newcomer seniors to adjust and learn more about Canadian culture and enhance their interaction with different communities. It’s strategy includes helping newcomer seniors living at the neighborhood spend couple of a hours twice a week to socialize with other seniors, develop friendships, get to know the culture and get involved in the various interactive activities that allow seniors to expand their social connections thus, promoting good health and positive outlook in life as newcomers to the country.
