Afghans Nature Lover’s In Toronto

We are a group of Afghan Seniors that meets out of the Victoria Park Hub. We would like to organize outdoor picnic and sightseeing for our members to increase their knowledge about their surrounding Parks and beauty of Toronto, as well as providing them with an opportunity to spend quality time with the members of their community to build social integration and make friends. We will engage families, especially newcomer women for these activities. Most of our group member are facing barriers to travel around alone or be able to enjoy a picnic outdoor with family or friends because of physical mobility as seniors, language barriers and isolation. Culturally, spending time outdoors is important to us back home but we have found among our members there is less access living in Toronto. We would like to enhance our group's work with other members of the community and be able to access other public spaces in the neighbourhood we come from. On rare occasions when we do get a chance to spend time outdoors with family members available to plan something, it is very beneficial to us and this is a chance for us to plan it ourselves. We want to promote more active use of local parks, especially intergenerationally. We would use these activities to engage membership to form an "Afghan Nature lover's Group in Toronto" that will work across different neighbourhoods.
