Association des locataires de Villeray

Founded in 1977, the ALV is a non-profit organization dedicated to defending the rights of tenants and the right to housing in the Villeray district. We have more than 220 members. Hosting, information workshops, meeting activists and document production are among its activities, with the issue of housing conditions at the top of the list. The organization has two permanent employees, interns during the school year (social work, law) and contract students during the summer period. During 2016-2017, more than 776 tenants from the neighborhood came to the offices of the organization to obtain legal information and support regarding a problematic situation in their housing and 25 workshops on different themes were offered. During summer time, we go meet families in the surrounding parks to distribute flyers about what we do. We would like to do a series of street 5 theater nights written and moderated by members of the organization on the oppression and power relations that capitalism and the private housing market have created. We already have 5 tenants involved in this project. We would need to be fund to get materiel for thoses events and to print flyers that we would distribute. We also would like to distribute some snacks during thoses presentations.
