Our goal is to reduce single-use plastics and packaging in our neighbourhood by encouraging both consumers and businesses to practice waste reduction together.
We do this in two ways:
1. We encourage neighbourhood businesses to participate in this initiative by displaying our Beaches Reduces BYO sticker at the door and accepting customers’ reusable containers whenever possible. This could mean using reusable containers such as coffee cups or water bottles, string bags for produce, cloth bags for bread and bulk food, reusable containers for takeout food and deli items such as meat, fish and cheese, selling more bulk items, or offering a discount when consumers BYO containers.
2. We focus on local community engagement to create awareness around the devastating worldwide effects of single-use items. We also encourage community members to shop at our Community Partners in the Beaches who allow consumers to BYO reusable containers.
In the summer months, you'll find us spreading awareness at Beach Village BIA events- Movies in the Park, Music in the Park and Jazz it up in Kew.
You'll also find us leading local Shoreline Cleanups at Balmy Beach Park, Kew Gardens Park, Ashbridges Bay Park, and Woodbine Beach Park.
