BUCKY MUSIC FESTIVAL
BUCKYMUSIC FESTIVAL is a small grassroots festival in its second year. Previous festival had 160 people in attendance with 10 bands performing. This was an all ages concert and free to everyone. Organizers included local Bankview residents Cam Christiansen and Maureen Hodgan, along with sound engineer Doug Basset and musician Jeff Landeen. Everyone volunteered their time for this event. All musicians received a small honorarium for their participation.
The vision for the event was to celebrate music in the park and to promote the talent of local residents. To this end, musicians included Daniel French, The Golden Dinosaurs, Miles Reid Trio, Boom Boom and The Love Bullies, who all came from the neighbourhood. A wide range of musical styles like blues, folk, rock, indie and traditional Nepalese were on offer. We set up games like outdoor ping pong, badminton and soccer in the park as part of the event. We encouraged people to bring their own picnics and had local residents the Neilson family set up their very own lemonade stand. Cam Christiansen designed and distributed a poster for the event.
The original idea was conceived at the Bankview Community Association’ s Ideas Night in 2017. This grassroots initiative received a micro grant through the Bankview Community Association and a Calgary Foundation’s I Love My Neighbourhood grant.
