central neighbourhoods

Central Neighbourhoods is a project for the coordination of neighbourhood revitalization activities in Central Park, Centennial and West Alexander. In Central Winnipeg, we work towards the long term goals of revitalize the neighbourhoods and foster stable and healthy communities. We work in the areas of housing, safety, education and livelihoods, intercultural relations and community pride. In our role to coordinate the activities of community renewal, we facilitate networks and consultations to manage community assets in an informed and collaborative way. Public Parks activation is one of the main activities we entertain throughout the year, in partnership with other local community organizations. There are 14 public green spaces in our neighbourhoods. Park activation brings people together, to celebrate and share their culture, provide positive opportunities to engage one another, foster volunteerism, and increase safety. We usually run 10-20 community events a year, many of which in public parks. Examples include a winter festival to activate a skating rink in a public park and incentives outdoor play in every season, spring clean-ups, cultural celebrations like world refugee day or multiculturalism day, canada day celebrations, nuit blanche, and our biggest event, sakihiwe festival central block party.
