Danforth Gardens Neighbourhood Association

The Danforth Gardens Neighbourhood Association's mandate is to bring together local residents to improve community safety, promote community interaction, organize community social events, provide community support, engage in neighbourhood improvement initiatives and communicate community issues. After some individual initiatives in 2015, a local tragedy brought the community together and provided an opportunity to connect in a positive way. An initial email list was generated which spawned a newsletter, website and Facebook page. We were able to use an email list from a former neighbourhood group that had become inactive. We have connected with local elementary schools, the local MP and the local city councillor. We petitioned for speed reduction which we achieved and have been active in the local Community Police Liaison Committee in addition to running a number of community events with partner groups including the Birchmount Neighbourhood Association, the Toronto Park Tree Foundation and Tree For Me and the City Of Toronto Parks and Recreation Department. Our reach is approximately 1,500 households in our immediate neighbourhood, as well as in surrounding neighbourhoods. We have 212 members on our Facebook Page, 80 families on our newsletter list and 8 people on an executive/organizing committee.
