Don Valley Calisthenics
We are a grassroots, non-profit group of volunteers with a passion for fitness. Our goal is to bring calisthenics to the outdoor parks of Canada, starting with the Toronto area.
ALL ARE WELCOME!
Our city and community approved installation of outdoor fitness equipment aims to:
+ welcome all ages and abilities
+ promote calisthenics by providing full body circuit training exercises
+ increase community fitness, health and engagement with neighbours
+ encourage more outdoor improvements to parks across Canada
+ represent a successful example of Participatory Budgeting to other cities worldwide
FULL BODY CIRCUIT TRAINING:
The fitness area is comprised of the following:
+ 3 pull-up bars
+ parallel bars
+ 3 step benches
+ monkey bars
+ long bench
+ instruction panels
In September 2015, the community of Ward 33 had approved the Don Valley Fitness Park, as part of the Participatory Budgeting (PB) pilot project 2015. PB allowed community residents to propose and vote on projects to improve their neighbourhoods. The projects were completely funded through a pre-determined amount from the City of Toronto's budget. https://tinyurl.com/PBthesix
Construction of the project began in October 2016.
On December 15, 2016 the outdoor fitness park was officially open to the public.
The equipment was facilitated by www.trekfit.ca/en
