Friends of Berczy Park

With close to 1,000 members to date, the group aims to enhance this public space to meet the diverse needs of all park users – including families, pet owners and seniors – and encourage inclusive, community-based stewardship of this heavily-used downtown park. First, the group participates in the maintenance and utility of the park. We do this through regular volunteer park clean up days, ongoing volunteer tidy ups, and our adopt-a-tree (tree care and watering) program. We have also planned past, self funded features to the park like bistro tables & chairs and Muskoka chairs. Second, we develop activities for local park users. These include the kids Story Time sessions (with the TPL), art exhibits with local community partners (JAMII) and get togethers for frequent park users (families, dog owners). Finally, FOBP has an advocacy arm that works with the City and other stakeholders to ensure the park is well maintained and that any developments or events benefit the surrounding community and residents
