Friends of McNabs Island Society
The Friends of McNabs Island Society is a registered charity incorporated under the Nova Scotia Societies Act in March 1990. The society is dedicated to the preservation and protection of McNabs and Lawlor Islands Provincial Park in Halifax Harbour for use solely as parkland.
As stewards of the island park, we have rebuilt some of the island's trails, and installed park benches, composting toilets and a visitor kiosk. We coordinate large-scale community beach cleanups each year collecting garbage and recyclables from the island’s shoreline.
The Friends of McNabs offer guided nature and heritage tours for schools, youth groups, and the general public. We've developed educational and interpretive material to support these efforts. Our newest project is transforming an abandoned stone building into an Outdoor Education Centre.
