Go Green Youth Centre

Go Green Youth Centre started as a grassroots initiative of staff, parents, students & community activists at Valley Park Middle School to design an environmentally friendly community cricket & sports field in 2011. The field is now surrounded by a newly designed bioswale, wetland, urban forest & butterfly meadow aimed at teaching rainwater reclamation & eco-literacy to Newcomer families living in the Thorncliffe Park and Flemingdon Park Neighbourhood Improvement Area. An amphitheater and multi-sport court was also added with all these amenities finally completed in 2015. Last summer, LED sports lights, a scoreboard, sound system and cricket practice cages were added. The total cost of this revitalization project was over $2.5 million dollars privately fundraised by Go Green through grants, donations, and sponsorships. Go Green Youth Centre has a sublicense agreement with the Toronto District School Board to manage and operate this outdoor facility/park (Go Green Cricket & Sports Field). We received $50,000 from TD Friends of the Environment Foundation for phase 1 of our capital project.
