Good Worm Garden Programs
Goodworm is a social enterprise (and soon to be a registered non-for-profit) that is based locally here in Edmonton. Using a social justice & anti-oppressive standpoint in tackling food insecurity issues, the sole owner and operating director Nicola Gunter of Good worm created a very interesting grassroots project called YEG Yard share.
In keeping to the point, the project uses a unique & systematic approach to essentially pair up yard hosts with those who are interested in becoming growers. The pilot neighbourhood will be the Tipaskan area here in Edmonton and will be targeted towards low-income & marginalized populations.
The program is in the beginning phase of the launch and we’re focusing on reaching out to the local community for potential resources and support from others also wanting to make an impact.
Ultimately the Yard Share project aims to increase local food production and create stronger community bonds by sharing space and cultivating harvest. Although Yard Share doesn't fix the problem altogether, we're hoping to be an impactful piece of the puzzle.
