Growing Neighbourhoods Foundation

Building Roots (with our charitable partner the Growing Neighbourhoods Foundation) enables people to create socially cohesive communities., and we want to make something awesome happen in our park!

Moss Park is a vibrant community in Downtown-East Toronto, but we suffer from the multiple issues that come with poverty, including safety, poorly used spaces and an under-resourced community. We have been working in partnership with resident volunteers, community leaders and about a dozen partner groups to create social connections and animate pubic spaces. We've done that through the first ever shipping container food store, the first urban farm in the core of the City, and a number of other events and green interventions in a large urban public space. We work in tandem with residents to co-develop the programs that are a priority, and are working to develop their capacity to lead programming in the long-term.

Parks we work in:

  • Moss Park Apartments (Toronto Community Housing)
  • Allan Gardens (City Park)
  • Ashbridge Estate (Ontario Heritage Trust)
