Metropolitan United Church

Metropolitan United Church has one of the only publicly accessible green spaces in downtown Toronto. Over the next few years, we will be revitalizing our outside space to be more functional, safe, beautiful and welcoming to the community. One project we would like to do this year is to put in some raised garden beds to be used for food production. The beds will be maintained by a group of volunteers and the children of our congregation. The food produced will be packaged up and handed out at our Wednesday "hospitality tent" in our park in front of the church. The hospitality tent offers food, services, clothing and other necessities of life to Toronto's marginalized and homeless communities. Vandalism is a concern on our property, but we have identified an an area in-between our building and parking lot that has a locking gate to host this project. In addition to providing some much needed healthy food for our vulnerable neighbours, this garden will help to reclaim, beautify and naturalize a section of our property that would otherwise be an unused asphalt slab.
