parkrun Canada

A ‘parkrun’ is a weekly, free, timed 5km community run. parkrun is not-for-profit organization, and was founded to encourage people to use park spaces to live healthier, happier lives. Globally there are now over 1200 events in 17 different countries. Since starting in Canada in summer 2016, we’re lucky enough to have 12 events in the country so far!

What I love most about parkrun is how it encourages participation - as a free, weekly event, the low barriers to entry foster an inclusive atmosphere – particularly attracting certain sections of the community who may have previously been inactive or too intimidated to enter a formal ‘race’. Crucially, it is a ‘run’ not a ‘race’, so the emphasis is very much on mass participation rather than ‘winning’ – so of course, walkers, dogs and children are all welcome!
