Sunalta Community Association

For 65 years the Sunalta Community Association has been instrumental in driving social change and building a stronger, more vibrant community by offering diverse and responsive programs and services. The SCA is a vehicle for social change, with a focus on innovation, inclusion, sustainability and advocacy. Key successes include the creation of a Community Hub where all Calgarians are welcome to come together to find support, experience culture, and enjoy being neighbourly. The Sunalta Wildflower (WFG) and Community Garden groups promote community engagement, stewardship and access to welcoming, natural spaces in our high-density, urban community. The WFG was formed in 2000 when a city lot became available. Sunalta needed more green space, so a group of volunteers developed the lot into a native Alberta landscape. The Community Garden was formed a few years later by volunteers who wanted to offer residents the opportunity to come together, grow their own food, tend to the garden and foster a sense of community. Community Garden members work together to maintain, plant, and activate the garden space behind the Sunalta Community Hall. Children's activities, a herb spiral, a food forest, water containment swales, and compost bins are a few of the additions created by garden enthusiasts over the years.
