Vanier People Parks Project

Our goal is to organize three events in the Vanier /Overbrook neighborhoods to showcase the beauty of our local parks and especially to increase presence of positive, safe and inclusive activities. With parks traditionnally tagged unsafe (drugs, vandalism, violence) Vanier residents have been multiplying efforts to take back community space to build positive networks of neighbors. With Vanier being such a diverse community, parks are a perfect place to share, connect and meet with fellow residents.
The Vanier Community Service Centre offers multiple services for Vanier and surrounding area residents such as counselling, legal, family, employment and community development services. For over 10 years, the community development branch of the Vanier CSC has led a network of community organizations through the Together for Vanier initiative which aims to diminish and prevent crime through community development initiatives. In this perspective, the Vanier Community Association was launched and is thriving with a large membership of highly active members. A Parks Committee was formed, through the Vanier Community Association and membres work to clean, organize activities and advocate for safety in community parks.
