Woodpark Common Ground Community Garden

The Woodpark Common Ground Community Garden is a new community garden located in west Ottawa. This initiative is part of a three year pilot to have a community garden on National Capital Commission land. We received approval to break ground on June 16, 2017 and have managed a lot of progress during our short growing season. In total, 16 families planted on 2000 square feet of garden and we have an additional 1000 square feet prepared for next year. We have a lot of plans for this upcoming year. For the 2018 growing season, we would like to increase the size of the garden by acquiring more land to put accessible beds, shared perennial beds, as well as individual plots. We will also be initiating a garden buddy program where people grow together, learn from each other, and help tend to each other’s plots; educational workshops; children’s garden area and programs; as well as more festivals and community-based activities that promote local food, growing food, and togetherness.
