York Region Food Network

York Region Food Network (YRFN) is a regional hub for the promotion of food security, fostering collaborations to create a healthy, accessible and sustainable food system in York Region. YRFN has been operating community gardens since 1993. We currently coordinate five gardens in York Region. The Community Compost Centre (CCC) is our new garden project. Our CCC provides opportunities for suburban residents to connect with nature and use compost as a way to reduce their impact on the environment. At a municipal level, food waste is expensive to process and when it enters the landfill it creates greenhouse gases. Composting is a great way to improve soil, grow the next generation of plants, improve water quality, and benefit the environment. Educational workshops and tours will be held at the CCC to give residents the opportunity to incorporate waste-free practices at home.
