Abdul Rashid Athar is community lead and park animator Park People for Flemingdon Park. He is a retired corporate banker, a resident of Flemingdon Park for twenty years and passionate about serving the community. He is associated with a number of not-for-profit organizations like Flemingdon Community Support Services, Engaged Communities, Friends of Flemingdon and Sherbourne Health.

He has been involved in many initiatives aimed at reducing youth violence, increasing awareness about physical and mental health, food security, civic engagement and animating parks and green spaces. Flemingdon Park is surrounded by many beautiful parks like E. T. Seton Park, Wilket Creek Park, Sunnybrook Park, Taylor Creek Park and Edwards Gardens and Don River. However, these parks and green spaces were visited by very few residents of his low-income neighbourhood due to fears of Covid-19 and many other factors. Abdul started a steps challenge initiative in his community last summer which turned out to be a great success and 138 residents joined walking groups and started daily walks. This had a tremendous positive impact on the community.
