Meet our 2023 InTO the Ravines Community Champions

InTO the Ravines Community Champions are community leaders who engage their communities in Toronto’s one-of-a-kind ravine system.

Here is what they have to say about their ravines and role.

Jewel Gomes & Alison Urquhart – Cedarvale Ravine

We are honoured to have been selected for the InTO the Ravines Champions as a way to bring greater awareness of these natural habitats in our city and how we can cherish and take good care of these precious ecosystems which support our communities. We are located in the west-central area of Toronto and hope to engage folks of all age groups to learn about the importance of ravines.

Aneesh P V Prasannan & Seema Anwar – Don Valley East

We are thrilled to become InTO the Ravines Community Champions because we believe in the power of collective action and the potential for positive change within our community. This opportunity allows us to channel our excitement, passion, and dedication into making a lasting impact. By actively engaging with our neighbors, organizing events, and fostering a sense of unity, we hope to create a stronger, more vibrant community where everyone feels valued and connected.

We are feeling blessed and fortunate to be one of the into the ravine champion teams who will be  Spreading awareness about the Ravines, protecting and celebrating the Ravines. We would like to start with engaging kids on our first event as we feel each child will be sharing their experiences with their family and friends and that way we end up  touching more people and the positive energy is transfered to more and more people.

Eugene (Evgeny) Slonimerov & Eva Karpati – West Don Valley

We’ve enjoyed hiking the G Ross Lord Park, its flood pond, and ravine as community members.  We are proud to be InTO the Ravines Champions this year and welcome new visitors as well as enrich the experience for the community. We’re eager to share their gained-knowledge about the importance of this aspect of our environment through means that will be relevant to the diverse cultures in this part of Toronto.

Munish Chopra & Salma Ginwalla – Humber River

The quote by Lao Tzu “The Journey of a thousand miles begins with a Single step”, inspired us to spend time outdoors despite our demanding schedule. Even if the ravine is a stone throw away from our residence, we felt trapped inside. We are thankful for InTO the ravine opportunity to inspire us to create positive changes in our lifestyle. We discovered a hidden gem in our own backyard and are inspired by the beauty and tranquility it offers. This experience has allowed us to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life, providing a much-needed escape  and a chance to rejuvenate our spirits.

Being part of the InTO the Ravine Champions community has also allowed us to forge new connections with like-minded individuals who share our passion for the outdoors.
