Finance Coordinator (Bookkeeping)

In this permanent, full-time role (35 hours/week), you will be part of a team supporting financial operations at Park People.  Reporting to the Director of Operations, you will be responsible for accounts payable and receivable, revenue reconciliation, budget tracking, and assisting with financial insights that support organizational decision-making and fiscal sustainability.

As Finance Coordinator your role will include:

  • Implementing accounting processes/functions/activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, pension plan, group benefits, donations processing, and others, using Quickbooks Online, Expensify, Plooto, Blackbaud, and other integrated platforms;
  • Working with our Director of Operations to ensure financial risks are monitored and identified, and processes/controls implemented to mitigate any risks identified;
  • Identifying trends and reviewing and recommending modifications or improvements to accounting systems, tools, technology, and procedures as needed;
  • Ensuring timely financial month-end closures and bank reconciliations;
  • Ensuring organizational financial compliance with regulatory bodies and legislative requirements  (e.g., CRA) and funders and ensuring Park People is adhering to Not-For-Profit accounting principles and standards (e.g. ASNPO, GAAP, etc.);
  • Project managing interim and year end tasks related to the annual audit, tax audits, semi-annual HST return, and T3010 charitable tax return;
  • Monitoring and ensuring proper financial coding;
  • Assisting with organizational budget building and monitoring;
  • Proactively maintain a highly organized filing system including files, invoices, reimbursements, insurance information, and other financial records;
  • Assisting with the preparation of funding requests and reports as needed;
  • Other financial or administrative tasks as assigned.

The skills and experience you bring to the role include:

  • Proven experience as a bookkeeper or finance coordinator, specifically in the Canadian not for profit sector 
  • High degree of fluency using Quickbooks Online
  • High degree of familiarity with Canada Revenue Agency rules governing charitable organizations, including experience filing T3010s
  • Experience completing annual external audits
  • Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for Non-Profits (ASNPO)
  • High degree of accuracy and exceptional attention to detail
  • High degree of ethics, integrity, and confidentiality
  • Experience with general ledger functions and month-end/year-end close processes
  • Financial modelling and forecasting skills
  • Experience with tech stacks, and the ability to adapt quickly to new software and updates
  • Experience in non-profit revenue recognition and fund tracking
  • Process oriented with ability to think critically and creatively about internal work flow
  • High level of comfort and experience working in a context of growth and change

A few other things that aren’t required but would make you a better fit… 

  • Bilingualism (French and English) or working knowledge of French is big asset
  • Experience in organizations working nationally and or in hybrid workplaces
  • Experience with grants administration

Location: This position is based in Toronto and is a hybrid in-person and remote position.  You must be available to work out of our space at 401 Richmond St. W.

Salary:  $58,000-$68,000

Anticipated Start Date: Mid-October 2025 or as soon as possible.  This is a new position.
