Associate Director, Development

The Associate Director, Development runs the day-to-day execution of Park People’s fundraising program. The successful candidate will think upstream, plan for, and leverage the collective development capacity of the leadership team and development staff to optimize fundraising and stewardship opportunities. The Associate Director, Development will ensure that the organization’s fundraising engine is structured, accountable, entrepreneurial, and active, and will translate fundraising strategy into clear plans, pipelines, and systems.

As the Associate Director, Development, your role will include

• Executing an annual fundraising plan and generating new ideas that increase revenue
• Serving as both a thought leader, and a practitioner who tactically contributes to the team (e.g. establishes and stewards key funder relationships, writes grant proposals or leads meetings with donors).
• Stewarding government funding strategy, including tracking relevant grant cycles and contribution agreements, and ensuring compliance with public funder reporting requirements
• Fostering interdepartmental collaboration to enhance institutional fundraising strategies, proposal development, and reporting
• Advocating for Park People’s community impact and building relationships with prospective funders and partners; serving as an external spokesperson at sector events
• Staying current and advising on developments in the public sector, philanthropic, environmental, and urban development sectors, and political environments that impact fundraising trends, goals, and strategies.
• Supervising development staff and developing clear roles, responsibilities, and actionable goals for the team while maintaining a culture of respect and collaboration
• Overseeing development systems (fundraising calendar, CRM database, donor and prospect records etc.) to ensure clear process ownership, communication, and collaboration
• Oversight of the development and finance tools and strategies including systems for pipeline management, revenue forecasting, and financial tracking/reporting.

The skills and experience you bring to the role will include:

• 5–7 years’ experience in fund development and fundraising management, including a track record of writing and securing large grants (in the $500K–$1M range) at a comparable sized non-profit organization ($3M operating budget)
• Track record identifying, securing, and stewarding government funding and revenue (municipal, provincial, federal contracts and agreements) alongside corporate and foundation 
• Experience navigating government grant/funding and earned revenue processes, including application requirements, compliance, and reporting obligations
• Strong values alignment with Park People, and the confidence to advocate for and actively sell the organization’s work
• A structured, organized, proactive, and entrepreneurial working style. You’re a self-starter who crafts creative solutions and opens doors to new funding opportunities. 
• Strong financial acumen including not for profit accounting principles, business models and revenue forecasting
• Experience supervising or mentoring staff
• Superior written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and an ability to weave that commitment into the development department’s practices

A few other things that aren’t required but would make you a great fit…

• Working knowledge of French is a strong asset.  Please indicate this in your application, if applicable. 
• Experience working with Raisers Edge NXT is an asset
• Familiarity with Park People’s area of work and the funders who support it is an asset 

This is a hybrid role based in Toronto, with 2 days of required in-person office time, attendance at many sector events, and some travel within Canada. 

Salary Range: $85,000-$100,000

Anticipated Start Date: Flexible, Aug-Sept 2026
